Plain Language Training: Part 1

Effective Communication with Plain Language: Training

Learn how to use plain language to save time, money, work, and frustration…and get better results! Plain Language skills can help you get your written or spoken message across quickly and clearly. These skills are useful to people in every field, including the disability field. Plain language is communication your audience can understand the first time they read or hear it. 

2-part Zoom Training

  • Thursday, December 9 from 10 am to 12 noon, and
  • Wednesday, January 12 from 10 am to 11:30 am

This training is free, but you must register and attend both sessions.

*You’ll also get a short homework assignment to practice between Sessions 1 and 2.

Session 1

This interactive 2-hour training will cover:

  • what plain language is, how you can use it, and why it’s important.
  • strategies on word choice, grammar use, and design elements you can use right away for more accessible and effective written communication.
  • tips for emails, social media posts, marketing materials, and more!

Session 2

This interactive 1.5 hour training will include:

  • review and reflection on homework from Session 1.
  • practice negotiating edits with other people.
  • plain language strategies for effective verbal communication.
  • tips for “making the case” for plain language in your workplace.

This 2-part Training is for: 

  • Department of Health Services staff
  • Department of Public Instruction staff
  • Division of Vocational Rehabilitation staff
  • Aging and Disability Resource Center staff
  • Managed Care and IRIS staff
  • Educators
