Wisconsin Act 323 established the Partners with Business initiative in 2018 to help businesses who are interested in meeting their workforce needs by hiring and supporting people with disabilities.

Through the Partners with Business initiative, supported employment agencies implement best practices for developing jobs and supporting workers with disabilities to achieve independence. If a worker needs additional support above and beyond what is typically provided by an employer, the supported employment agency partners with the business to put formal co-worker supports in place, for which the business is reimbursed, rather than sending in a job coach. This results in a win-win-win for the employer, the worker and the agency:

  • Employers and co-workers have a more direct relationship with the worker
  • The worker experiences greater independence and less stigmatization
  • The agency can free up and redirect job coaching resources to get more people jobs

This webinar will provide an overview of the Board for People with Developmental Disabilities’ statewide Partners with Business initiative, the Partners with Business model, and the tools, resources, and technical assistance available to help service providers implement best practices and negotiate formal/paid co-worker supports.
