Wisconsin’s Supported Decision-Making Law took effect in Spring of 2018. Supported Decision-Making is one alternative to guardianship that allows people with disabilities and older adults to retain their legal rights.
This statewide training will cover:
- What Supported Decision-Making is
- What alternatives to guardianship are available in Wisconsin
- How to use Supported Decision-Making strategies, both as an alternative to guardianship and within existing guardianships
- Legal responsibilities of Supported Decision-Making
- Stories of how Wisconsin residents have used Supported Decision-Making
This statewide training is for:
- Person with a disability/older adult
- Family member and/or guardian of a person with a disability or older adult
- Aging and Disability Resource Center Staff
- Managed Care and IRIS staff
- Department of Health Services employees
- Department of Public Instruction Employees
- Department of Workforce Development Employees
- Educators
- Children’s Long-Term Care Staff
- Health Care Providers
- Service Providers
- Other Professionals (please describe)
