Black History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements and the crucial role that African Americans have had in the history of the United States. Every February since 1976 has been celebrated as Black History Month with an official proclamation from the president, although the idea for the celebration started long before that.\u00a0<\/p>\n
It’s an important time to celebrate achievements but also to educate ourselves and each other about the United States’ long-standing history of systemic racism. The Smithsonian Institute has virtual events scheduled throughout the month with some being aimed as educational events for kids! The National Parks Service has also put together a great list of monuments, parks and locations you can tour virtually to learn more.<\/p>\n
