Every February since 1976 has been celebrated as Black History Month with an official proclamation from the president, although the idea for the celebration started long before that.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an important time to celebrate achievements but also to educate ourselves and each other about the United States&#8217; long-standing history of systemic racism. The Smithsonian Institute has virtual events scheduled throughout the month with some being aimed as educational events for kids!
