Jenny Price joins BPDD as a veteran communications professional and parent advocate with strong ties to BPDD\u2019s work and mission.\u00a0She began her career as an award-winning journalist, reporting for the Associated Press from Little Rock, Arkansas, and Kansas City, Missouri, before returning home to Wisconsin to cover the state Capitol.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was my great honor as Chair to lead the search for our next Executive Director, and I\u2019m thrilled to announce that Jenny Price will carry BPDD\u2019s mission forward. Under her leadership, BPDD will continue to strengthen voices, expand opportunities, and drive systems change across Wisconsin,\u201d said Board Chair Sydney Badeau.<\/p>\n
BPDD selected Price as one of our first Disability Policy Fellows, placing her in the Wisconsin Department of Health Services to work on Medicaid programs for children and adults with disabilities. Following the fellowship, she continued working as a Medicaid program and policy analyst for the state\u2019s long-term care programs, including home and community-based services for people with disabilities. She is also a graduate of Partners in Policymaking, BPDD\u2019s advocacy training program for self-advocates and family members of people with developmental disabilities.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople with developmental disabilities and their families are the experts on programs and policies that affect their choices and quality of life, and they should have a say in how things work. BPDD provides the tools and training they need to engage with and educate decision-makers at the local, state, and national levels,\u201d Price said. \u201cI learned how to become a stronger advocate because of BPDD.\u201d<\/p>\n
Before her BPDD fellowship, Price led communications strategy for WayForward Resources, a food and housing nonprofit in Dane County. At the University of Wisconsin-Madison, she served as a writer and editor for the alumni magazine and taught courses at the School of Journalism and Mass Communication. She has also served as a community member on the Wisconsin State Journal Editorial Board. Price has degrees in journalism and political science from UW-Madison and earned an advanced graduate certificate in disability studies from the City University of New York School of Professional Studies.<\/p>\n
\u201cI am proud to lead BPDD\u2019s work to ensure that people with disabilities live with dignity, are connected to their communities, and make decisions about their own lives,\u201d Price said.<\/p>\n
