Traditionally underserved groups are especially encouraged to apply. Examples include:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Faith-based, civic and nonprofit groups<\/li>\n<li>School districts<\/li>\n<li>Municipalities or local governments such as community recreation programs<\/li>\n<li>Family groups<\/li>\n<li>Individuals or groups with strong connections to their community<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Examples of what you can do with the grant.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Make school extracurriculars accessible to students with disabilities and be intentional about inviting them to participate.<\/li>\n<li>Host a community conversation to talk about ways to meaningfully include people with disabilities in community programs. Work on an idea or tow over the next year.<\/li>\n<li>Implement innovative ways to make families with children with disabilities feel welcome in their faith community.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>What can you expect from BPDD?<\/h3>\n<p>Grant recipient will receive ongoing coaching\/technical assistance to help you get started on your project as well as throughout your project. You will also have opportunities to share your project ideas and resources with other grant recipients from around the state.<\/p>\n<h3>What are you committing to?<\/h3>\n<p>1) Attend the mandatory virtual Kickoff on September 27, 2024 from 9:30 am to noon via Zoom. This event will focus on:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>strategies for projects to be successful<\/li>\n<li>sharing ideas with other projects<\/li>\n<li>reviewing grant expectations<\/li>\n<li>confirming contracts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>2) Start the project no earlier than October 1, 2024 and complete the work plan by September 30, 2025.<\/p>\n<p>3) Provide quarterly updates throughout the year.<\/p>\n<p>4) Submit monthly or quarterly requests for reimbursements, along with required receipts for all expenses.<\/p>\n<p>5) Share information on the project, including any public events that are planned and photos that can be used in BPDD social media.<\/p>\n<p>6) Conduct targeted outreach with people of diverse identities and\/or individuals who are underserved.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How do you apply?<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Complete and submit the Building Connections application packet (application, budget, and work plan). Grassroots community organizing means groups working for positive community change for individuals with disabilities on issues that are important to them. SPARKS Grants are funded by the Wisconsin Board for People with Developmental Disabilities (BPDD), and are available to people with developmental disabilities and family members in Wisconsin. Activities funded by SPARKS Grants include:\r\n<ul>\r\n\t<li>Organize a local People First chapter<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Form a local social justice or civic group that includes people with and without disabilities (this could be a school group)<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Local community advocacy (e.g., developing an inclusive park or accessible garden, expanding community employment opportunities for people with disabilities)<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>What have been some of the accomplishments of past SPARKS Grants?<\/h2>\r\nSPARKS grants have had many positive results, including:\r\n<ul type=\"disc\">\r\n\t<li>Creation of an accessible city park in Oshkosh<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Expansion of the bus transportation system in the Wausau area<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Development of unique employment opportunities at local organic farms in Kickapoo, WI<\/li>\r\n\t<li>Development of an accessible garden, community room and kitchen in Stevens Point<\/li>\r\n<\/ul>\r\n<h2>Who can apply?<\/h2>\r\nIndividuals with developmental disabilities and family members may apply for the grants. These funds are not intended to supplant operational funds by an organization, to purchase equipment, or to pay for staff.\r\n<h2>How to apply:<\/h2>\r\nComplete and submit the SPARKS Grants application packet (application form, budget worksheet, and project work plan). Instructions for how to submit the application packet can be found within the forms. Application materials (i.e., application form, budget worksheet, and work plan) are due by 12:00 p.m. on <strong>Friday August\u00a03oth, 2019<\/strong>. Grant recipients will be notified of their award in <strong>mid-September<\/strong>.\r\n<h2>How much funding can you request?<\/h2>\r\nIndividual grants range from $500-$5,000.
